Review

Snowflake Gelato was founded in 2012 by a man called Asaf Khan, and has since grown rapidly. The philosophy of the brand is simple – make high quality Italian gelato from fresh ingredients, and don’t compromise on quality.

The gelato chef at Snowflake (a wonderful title) has trained at an actual gelato university in Italy, which sounds a lot more fun than doing politics with a minor in economics. He is therefore an expert in his craft and has helped to take the business from one shop in 2012 to three shops in London, and a fourth concession inside Selfridge’s food hall.

The quality of ingredients is very important, and so milk and cream is organic and comes from Jersey cows, fruit is locally farmed and importantly, seasonal – blood oranges are only available for a short period each year and that is the only time you will see the flavour at Snowflake.Alongside gelato they create many other glorious treats in their development kitchen, including a range of waffles, crepes and handmade gelato cookie sandwiches.

There’s also a range of mini cones, and some truly stunning cakes, which are customisable given notice – a really fun and unique alternative to a standard celebration cake.

Tasting the gelato it is easy to see why they’ve won a whopping 25 Great Taste Awards Gold Stars over the years, and were voted supreme champions in 2014 for their raspberry sorbetto.

The only problem you’ll have at Snowflake is deciding between the flavours, which means of course that the only solution is to work your way through them all.
