Father Gerald is the vicar at Marble Arch’s Church of the Annunciation on Bryanston Street.
1Can you explain your role in one sentence?As the vicar of a church I’m called to take forward a worshipping community that embodies the love of God and enable it to serve the local community.
2How long have you been doing this job?I was ordained in 1980 and have been in my present post since 2010. Before I was Vicar at Annunication Marble Arch I was Priest-in-Charge.
3Did you find yourself in this role by accident or by design?By design. It was my choice and believe that I am called by God to serve as I do.
4What’s the best part about your job? Meeting a fascinating variety of people each with their own story to tell.
5What’s the strangest thing that has ever happened to you in your job?Going to visit someone and finding myself in the scene of an attempted murder.
6What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work in this role?I enjoy travel especially to the Baltic. This summer I was in Finland and Estonia.
7What do you like about this area?That it is home to such an international and multi-faith community.
8Where’s your favourite place to go for lunch in the local area?I don’t have a particular favourite. I just love the choice.
9Who is YOUR hero and what is it about them that inspires you?Jesus Christ. His capacity to take everyone on their own terms and face every challenge that life threw at him.
10If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?Within the Arctic Circle to see the Northern Lights.
