Meet Isaac, Security Officer at the Marble Arch Mound.
Can you explain your role in one sentence?I’m a Security Officer for McKenzie Arnold. They specialise in providing event security and stewarding services to the events industry, and they're in charge of security at the Marble Arch Mound.
How long have you been doing this role?I joined McKenzie Arnold a year ago in Stratford during last year’s premiere league season.
Did you find yourself in this role by accident or by design?By design. I started working in merchandising at the O2 when it opened in 2007 but quickly developed an interest in security. I wanted to change careers so the O2 trained me and I’ve now worked in security for couple of years. I was made redundant at the beginning of the pandemic but found a position here at McKenzie Arnold.
What’s the best part about your job?Our job is to reassure people and keep them safe, I find that exhilarating.
What’s the strangest thing that has ever happened to you in your job?I’ve had to bounce on the Mound quite a bit. People think the structure isn’t safe because it’s bouncy, but it’s just part of the design. So I bounce on it to show visitors it’s secure.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?I love to see my three children and my granddaughter. We meet every Sunday. My five-year-old granddaughter makes me feel younger.
What do you like about this area?People were negative about the Mound when it opened but I relish how visitors are starting to accept it for what it is – an unusual innovation. It’s a free attraction and it helps, but I think the light exhibition inside the Mound has also really increased the value.
Where’s your favourite place to go for lunch in the local area?M&S on Oxford Street, or Edgware Road for Middle Eastern food.
Who is YOUR hero and what is it about them that inspires you?My mother. She’s no longer with us but she pushed me to be the best person I could be. Nelson Mandela is also one of my heroes.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?I would love to visit the Taj Mahal and Thailand.
