Active Bystander Training

Following the success of our November session, Marble Arch BID is hosting a second Active Bystander Training course on Thursday 15 January 2026, from 10am to 12pm, delivered online.

An active bystander is someone who takes positive action to prevent or reduce harm when they encounter prejudice, discrimination, harassment or identity-based violence. This course is designed to help people step in safely and confidently, whether they witness harmful behaviour in their workplace, in the community, or while travelling. The training provides practical tools, real-life scenarios, and space for reflection, showing how small, well-judged actions can make a meaningful difference.

The need for this type of training continues to grow. Research from the CIPD shows that while most employers believe they respond well to harassment or inappropriate behaviour, only a third of staff involved in workplace conflict actually feel issues are resolved. This gap between intention and lived experience is one of the reasons organisations are turning to bystander training as a way to build safer, more respectful environments.

For frontline sectors such as retail, hospitality, leisure, and public-facing services, the training is especially relevant. Employees in these roles often encounter challenging behaviour and may feel unsure how to respond. Equipping teams with safe intervention strategies not only helps prevent escalation but also strengthens staff wellbeing, resilience, and confidence. For office-based teams, the course supports inclusive workplace cultures, offering tools to address everyday behaviours, from inappropriate comments to exclusion, before they become embedded.

By taking part, Marble Arch businesses invest in safer communities and stronger teams, sending a clear message that everyone has a role in maintaining an environment where colleagues and customers feel respected and supported.
