Adams Street Partners delivered CV workshops and mock interviews with students at MBS Sixth Form to help prepare them for the world of work.

The career skills session, held on 5 December 2024, helped offer practical tips and guidance to the 16 and 17-year-olds as they prepare for the transition from education to employment. The team of nine Adams Street Partners volunteers, from its Great Cumberland Place office, supported 65 students, studying a range of subjects including business and the sciences.
Marble Arch Partnership collaborated with MBS Sixth Form, based in Paddington Basin, to deliver the activities with its current Year 12 intake, the majority of whom hadn’t thought about their careers and don’t have a CV in place.
The 90-minute session delivered practical exercises that helped engage the students in discussions about important stages of entering the job-market – having a strong CV and being able to talk about yourself at interview. This included analysing and critiquing anonymous CV examples. This helped students understand the importance of structuring a CV, as well as keeping information clear, concise and relevant to the role applied for.

Mock interviews provided an opportunity for students to practice being questioned in a safe environment. Students took turns to ask each other common interview questions such as describing their strengths and providing examples of when they have dealt with challenging situations. Acting as observers to the mock interviews, Adams Street Partners volunteers were able to offer insights on how to improve their responses in a supportive and encouraging way.
Throughout the session, students also benefitted from hearing personal accounts from the employee volunteers, who were instrumental in deepening the student’s understanding of the job recruitment process.
The form tutors were delighted with the session and said it will be an enormous help to students, particularly hearing from and engaging directly with, a local business.
