Autumn sun shines for Silver Sunday Safaris

Hyde Park was bathed in autumn sunshine on Tuesday 9 October, providing perfect weather for our Silver Sunday Safaris, held in Partnership with Liberty Drives.

Liberty Drives provide mobility vehicles offering tours of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. For this event they welcomed 25 older people on board. Accompanied by corporate volunteers from The Portman Estate, Multiplex, Broadgate Estates, The Montcalm London Marble Arch and London Marriott Hotel Marble Arch; the guests were driven by Liberty Drive volunteers around the Park, enjoying views of the fountains and statues, before stopping by the Serpentine.

Here our generous hosts treated their guests to tea and cake at the lakeside café and spent time chatting to each other over delicious scones and slices of carrot cake and lemon drizzle.

It was a very special occasion with guests joining us over the course of the day from the Westminster Carers Network, Penfold Community Hub, Open Age and local Alms Houses, as well as many Marble Arch residents whose limited mobility means they are unable to visit the park independently.

“I hadn’t experienced anything quite like this before and completely forgot about my worries at home whilst I was out. Please say thank you to the helpers that were on my buggy. I will not forget their kindness.”

The trips ended with fond farewells and group photos to capture the friendships formed and the fun had by all. Requests have already come in for a repeat in 2019, and with this event having been fully booked, do look out for next year’s date.

If you would be interested in supporting local older people, either at one off events or on a regular basis, please contact our Community Programme Manager, Emily. She will be delighted to speak to you about opportunities.
