Marble Arch BID was delighted to welcome the Metropolitan Police’s specialist e-bike team to Marble Arch on 4 September 2026 for a major crackdown on adapted and illegal e-bikes and e-scooters.
Officers were stationed along the roads leading to the square to identify potential bikes and scooters, flag down riders and safely escort them to the centre of the island where they could be speed tested with specialist equipment.
In the UK the legal speed limit for an electric bike or scooter is 15.5 mph or 25 km per hour.
Over 20 e-bikes and e-scooters were seized, along with several uninsured motorcycles. One seized e-scooter recorded a top speed of 70 km per hour. Riders were issued with notices of intended prosecution, with vehicles seized followed by a potential fine and points.

The specialist unit spent over seven hours at Marble Arch, joined by the local Hyde Park police team over the course of the afternoon.
The initiatives forms part of the Met’s wider clampdown on e-bikes and e-scooters, which can be used by criminals and pose serious safety concerns for pedestrians and road users.
