Throughout September, Westminster City Council and the Portman Estate, with design consultants Root and Erect, are hosting Designing the Magic Carpet, a series of events and workshops at Nutford Place to develop giant floor ‘rugs’ and test how to animate and activate Nutford Place. The programme is designed to connect with the local community and celebrate the area’s rich heritage.
Week 1: Pattern Setting Out, Saturday 6 September 11am – 2 pm
Pattern Drawing Workshop hosted by artist Lacey Ferri.
Week 2: Design Week, Sunday 14 September 11am – 2 pm
3D Sculpture & Pattern Workshop as part of London Design Festival with Root and Erect and GF Smith.
Week 3: Play Week, Friday 19 September 3:30pm – 6:30 pm
Afterschool Play Day in collaboration with storytellers Hekayyatna and SWANA organisations.
Week 4: Feast, Saturday 27 September 1:30pm – 6:30 pm
Community Feast Day with story sharing by Hekayyatna.
