Alfresco Software took part in their first volunteering event with the Marble Arch Community Programme on Thursday 27 February. Fifteen colleagues from the company’s Capital House office braved the snow and rain to support local charity, The Westminster Society. Three teams of five spent the day transforming the garden spaces of four assisted living flats. By tending to the gardens now, the residents will be able to enjoy their outdoor spaces in the warmer spring and summer months to come.
The Westminster Society is a London-wide charity that provides support services for adults and children with learning difficulties.
Despite the weather, Alfresco colleagues wasted little time getting to work tackling the four different gardens. Tasks in the morning included trimming back overgrown vegetation, weeding pathways and planting new sensory flowers and shrubs. Lavender, Rosemary and Snapdragons were specifically chosen for their vibrant colours and fantastic smells.
After lunch, volunteers finished off cutting and removing the overgrown vegetation before jet washing and clearing the gardens’ patio spaces.
“It felt great working together to achieve something which made such a visible difference to the residents at the Westminster Society, in some cases even getting to interact with them too”.
