Great British Spring Clean 2021

This June, Marble Arch London BID is taking part in the Great British Spring Clean 2021, a nationwide effort to rid our green spaces of litter and pollution. Volunteers from across Marble Arch will participate in two activities to preserve our local natural environment.

On 7 June, volunteers will set sail from Paddington Basin in GoBoats, canoes and on paddleboards, using litter pickers and nets to pull polluting objects out of the canal. This is a hugely popular activity and volunteers have a fantastic time sailing along the canal and enjoying the scenery whilst they contribute to making the local environment cleaner and safer for us all to enjoy. The volume of rubbish volunteers pull from the water also highlights the severity of plastic pollution in London’s waterways.

On 10 June, Marble Arch BID will also lead a group of volunteers to support an environmental project in Hyde Park. Local volunteers will work together to remove ragwort, thistle and cow parsley from Hyde Park’s wildflower meadows, maintaining the meadow areas for the community to enjoy.

Volunteer safety is always our top priority and these events will be thoroughly risk assessed and Covid-secure. All equipment will be cleaned after each use and volunteers will have access to hand sanitiser and PPE. All activities will take place in broad open spaces with social distancing measures in place.

The past year has highlighted the importance of access to outdoor space for all. These environmental projects ensure that natural spaces are well maintained and free from pollution for the community to enjoy. We are so excited to safely welcome volunteers back to the area. The Great British Spring Clean 2021 is a wonderful opportunity to get your team back together and take part in a meaningful project for the benefit of the whole community.
