The Friends of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens have put together a roster of bands to perform at the Bandstand in Hyde Park on Saturday 19 August, Sunday 3 September and Sunday 10 September 2023. Marble Arch London BID is delighted to sponsor the South London Jazz Orchestra on Sunday 10 September.
All shows are FREE and take place in Hyde Park:
- Saturday 19 August 2.30-4.30pm – Orquesta Mambarito & Victor Marchangioli: For a great afternoons dancing, red-hot salsa and Latin jazz featuring a classic line-up of trumpets, trombones, baritone sax and full Afro-Cuban rhythm section. Fronted by the stunning Venezuelan singer, Victor Marchangioli.
- Sunday 3 September 2.30-4.30pm – Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band: With its new musical director, Mike West, this large brass band from East Kent returns to the roots of traditional bandstand music, and serves as a reminder and representation of all the coal miners’ bands from across Britain.
- Sunday 10 September 2.00-4.30pm – South London Jazz Orchestra with Simon Selmon: The best of big band jazz and a programme of music to dance to. Featuring the talented swing dance teacher Simon Selmon to help us learn a few moves.
The bandstand in Hyde Park is one of the oldest in Britain. It was built in 1869 and originally stood in Kensington Gardens, but moved to Hyde Park in 1886. The octagonal roof gives it particularly good acoustics.
The Friends of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens is a charity and is run by a small group
of trustees. The organisation represents the interests of all users of the parks whether they are neighbours or visitors to London. The organisation works closely with all members of staff who run the parks for everyone’s benefit.
