Dedicated employee volunteers from the Church Commissioners for England have been actively improving two local community environments this month. The Church Commissioners look after the Hyde Park Estate, to the west of Edgware Road.
Undeterred by the rain showers, 31 colleagues split into volunteering teams across two sites on 9 July 2024 to tend Penfold Hub’s community garden and remove litter from the Grand Union and Little Venice Canal.

These activities were supported by Marble Arch London BID, as part of our Community Programme, which empowers our members to make a tangible difference in the local area.
Penfold Community Hub is a dedicated centre offering a range of weekly activities for people aged 50 plus, in addition to advice and information. Its community garden requires support from green-fingered volunteers to keep he space safe and useable during the summer months. Volunteers at the community garden removed weeds, pruned overhanging branches, power washed paving slabs and created compost boxes.

The canal clean-up was equally productive, with volunteers collecting a range of litter, including a traffic cone and part of a bed’s headboard.
GoBoat Paddington provides training and access to eco-friendly, electric powered boats for volunteers to navigate local waterways and help clear the surface water of rubbish.

The Church Commissioners for England had a great time getting stuck into gardening and litter-picking efforts in and around the Marble Arch area. A big thank you to our friends at Marble Arch London BID for hosting us.
