Earlier this month, Waitrose on Edgware Road became the latest business to join the Safe Havens initiative, strengthening the growing network in the Marble Arch district. As the fourth official Safe Haven location, Waitrose’s participation reflects a continued commitment from local businesses to provide immediate support to anyone in need of assistance in the area. This addition enhances the accessibility and visibility of Safe Havens along Edgware Road, making it even easier for people to find a safe space when they need it most.

Marble Arch London BID is proud to announce the launch of the district’s first three Safe Havens, located at Marriott Hotel Marble Arch, The Cumberland Hotel, and McDonald’s on Edgware Road. These venues are the first in the area to join the pan-London Safe Haven network, with more sites set to follow throughout 2025.

The Safe Havens initiative forms part of the BID’s broader strategy to improve safety for women and girls at night and offer reassurance to anyone who may feel vulnerable, whether living, working, or visiting the Marble Arch and Edgware Road area.
Delivered in partnership with Safer Business Network, the Safe Havens programme provides businesses with training and resources to offer a temporary safe space for people in need. The BID team has worked closely with each venue to prepare them to deliver this vital support, including staff training and ongoing guidance.
The new Safe Havens will offer a secure and welcoming environment where individuals can take a short break, charge their phone, access a drink of water, or arrange safe transport home. While not expected to offer specialist interventions, trained staff are able to contact emergency services and signpost to specialist support services if required.
All Marble Arch Safe Havens are part of the city-wide Safe Haven network, now comprising over 190 venues across London. They can be easily located using the Safe Haven app, which is free to download on both iOS and Android. Each participating venue is clearly marked with Safe Haven signage on its doors or windows for easy identification.
Safer Business Network is a key partner in the programme, working alongside the BID, to ensure Safe Havens are supported during their operating hours.
By becoming Safe Havens, Marriott Hotel Marble Arch, The Cumberland Hotel, and McDonald’s are not only contributing to a safer local environment, but also setting an example of social responsibility and community leadership within the hospitality and retail sectors.
We encourage other local businesses to consider joining the Safe Haven network. Find out more about becoming a Safe Haven on our website here or email our team to get the ball rolling.
