London Marriott Hotel Marble Arch and London Marriott Hotel Park Lane teams truly have the ‘Spirit to Serve’. Thirteen employees from the two hotels visited the nearby canals to collect plastic and support their local communities, which is the ethos of the brand’s CSR campaign – ‘Spirit to Serve’.
On Tuesday 23 July, the volunteers set off at 10:00 am in a two-boat convoy. Armed with litter pickers and nets, the group travelled on electric GoBoats to fish out plastic bottles and packaging from the canal. Blessed with glorious weather, the teams travelled along the Grand Union Canal through Little Venice and as far as Eyre’s Tunnel before doubling back.
The morning finished with a group photo and some competitive chatter over who had collected more plastic. Catches of the day included an old sports bag and a plastic scooter, found on the canal bed.
“The Green Committee at the London Marriott Hotel Marble Arch truly embrace our core values and the #SpiritToServe and love getting other hotels involved in our community activity. As a company, Marriott International is keen to make a difference, not only within its hotels but also in the local area. The Plastic Fishing event was a lovely morning in the Paddington Basin and Little Venice area, inspired by the Planet or Plastic National Geographic pledge. We choose the planet – what do you choose?”
