Serpentine Pavilion 2026

Serpentine Pavilion 2026, designed by Mexico City-based architecture studio LANZA atelier, will open at Serpentine South on 6 June 2026, marking the 25th edition of the internationally renowned Serpentine Pavilion programme.

Presented in partnership with Goldman Sachs, the pavilion will remain open to the public until 25 October 2026 and host Serpentine’s annual programme of talks, performances, community events and interdisciplinary activities throughout the summer.

Founded in 2015 by architects Isabel Abascal and Alessandro Arienzo, LANZA atelier is known for creating spaces that blend craftsmanship, material experimentation and social interaction. Their work spans residential architecture, public infrastructure and furniture design, with a strong emphasis on collaborative and hands-on design processes.

For the 2026 Pavilion, the studio drew inspiration from the “serpentine wall” or “crinkle-crankle wall”, a distinctive brick wall formed from alternating curves. Commonly associated with Suffolk, the design traces its origins back to ancient Egypt before later being introduced to England by Dutch engineers. The wall’s undulating form creates structural stability while using fewer bricks than a traditional straight wall.

The pavilion’s design also references the nearby Serpentine lake, echoing its soft, winding shape. A translucent roof supported by slender brick columns creates an open, light-filled structure that sits gently within the surrounding landscape and tree canopy. The design blurs the boundary between indoors and outdoors, encouraging visitors to move through and gather within the space.

Brick has been chosen as the pavilion’s primary material, creating a dialogue with the historic brick façade of the Serpentine South Gallery, which originally served as a tea pavilion. Through repeating brick columns that shift from solid to permeable, the structure challenges the idea of walls as barriers and instead promotes openness, visibility and connection.

LANZA atelier has also designed bespoke chairs and stools for the pavilion using locally crafted sapele hardwood, continuing the studio’s approach of treating furniture and architecture as part of the same design language at different scales.

To celebrate the pavilion’s 25th anniversary, Serpentine will also present a special collaboration with the Zaha Hadid Foundation and the Architectural Association, honouring the legacy of inaugural pavilion architect Zaha Hadid.

The Serpentine Pavilion has become one of London’s most anticipated annual architectural commissions, providing an international platform for emerging and established architects while creating a unique public space for culture, learning and community engagement in the heart of the city.

The 2026 Serpentine Pavilion will be open from 6 June to 25 October 2026 at Serpentine South in Kensington Gardens.

For 25 years, the Serpentine Pavilion has offered something rare, a space where architecture, art and everyday life meet, free and open in the heart of Hyde Park. Each commission is an invitation to test ambitious ideas in one of the world's great public spaces. With LANZA atelier, we deepen our cultural exchange with Mexico and reaffirm what the Pavilion has always been: a place of connection. We are deeply grateful to our partners and supporters for making it possible.
