Side Road Crossings Trial on Chapel Street

Westminster Council is trialling the introduction of informal side road crossings around Chapel Street, on an experimental basis.

The introduction of informal side road crossings is intended to encourage road users to give priority to pedestrians at side road crossing points and highlight the recent change to the Highway Code.

The revisions to parking provision and introduction of double yellow line “at any time” waiting and loading restrictions will improve sightlines and safety for vehicle users and pedestrians and prevent obstructive parking on corners.

Around Chapel Street you will see these side road pedestrian crossings in three different places:

  • Between Capital House and Edgware Road Underground station, at the junction of Chapel Street and Cabbell Street north.
  • At the junction of Chapel Street and Cabbell Street south.
  • On Chapel Street at the junction of Transept Street.

The measures are being introduced on an experimental basis so that their operation and impact on the surrounding area can be monitored and, if necessary, suspended or modified without delay.

The Council will then consider whether to retain the experimental measures on a permanent basis.
