A crew of litter picking employee volunteers from Victory Services Club turned out in the rain for a canal clean-up on 1 October 2024.

The 20-strong team of staff from Victory Services Club, a military members’ club located on Seymour Street, set sail in three eco-friendly, electric-powered boats to help improve the environment around the Grand Union and Little Venice Canal.

Conditions on the day were far from ideal, however the persistent rain could not dampen the spirits of the amazing employee volunteer team.

The volunteers used litter pickers and nets to collect six bags of rubbish and plastic pollution from the waterways along the Grand Union canal.

According to Canal and River Trust research, around 14 million pieces of plastic rubbish ends up in our canals and rivers each year. This causes the potential to damage waterside habitats and risk serious injury or even suffocation of wildlife.
