On 4 January 2024, Creams Café Marble Arch generously helped members from Penfold Community Hub to escape the January blues by hosting a wonderful waffle and board game social. Spurred by the Marble Arch BID Silver Sunday event featured in the Marble Arch newsletter, Creams graciously extended their time and space to host a similar gathering, a sweet offer the Penfold Community members couldn’t resist.
Nestled within a local care home catering to around 50 residents, many of whom have dementia and physical disabilities, Penfold Community Hub provides a vibrant programme for local older residents. We were joined by members of the knitting, yoga and arts clubs at the event.
After Penfold community members took a look through the vast menu, Creams’ volunteers got to work weaving magic with waffles and crepes adorned in chocolate, caramel, ice cream, fruit, and biscuits. Strawberries and bananas were the favourite toppings amongst the guests.
The desserts went down a treat amongst the Penfold community members and once the last waffle disappeared, it was time for a domino showdown – a particular Penfold member, a dominoes maestro, stole the spotlight.
This event not only allowed Creams’ volunteers to use their skills to support the Marble Arch community but also introduced some Penfold members to the world of waffles for the first time, sparking joy in the novelty.
We’d like to thank Creams Marble Arch and all of the staff volunteers for orchestrating this delightful afternoon. We are delighted that Creams reached out to us to form a new community partnership.
