Westway Weekend Closures

A series of partial closures of the elevated section of the A40 Westway at weekends will commence on 26 November 2021 and continue to summer 2022.

Replacement of expansion joints, repair of concrete, drainage and inspection hatches are priorities, with the Westway’s elevated section supporting 21 bridge structures, all built between 1969 and 1970 using reinforced concrete. Several components have reached the end of their service life.

The closures will take from 26 November 2021 to summer 2022, in two phases, enabling Transport for London to work safely on repairing the structure, which is used by 96,000 vehicles a day.

At weekends the road will be closed in one direction only, with eastbound closures commencing first on 26 November and running to 7 March 2022. Westbound closures commence on 11 March 2022 and are expected to be completed by July 2022. Expect approach roads to be busier.

Weekend closures will be either:

  • 22:00 on Friday evening to 05:00 on Monday morning or
  • Overnight from 22:00 on Saturday evening to 08:00 on Sunday morning

On weekdays the Westway will remain open in both directions but will be limited to two lanes of traffic.
